No. 39 Washington Falls At No. 9 Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- No. 39 Washington fell to 6-2 on the season, dropping a dual match at No. 9 Alabama, 5-2. The Dawgs lost the doubles point and despite rebounding to win a pair of singles matches, fell short to a top SEC foe. The Crimson Tide got out to the early lead, winning at both No. 2 and 3 doubles. The team of Mary Anne Macfarlane and Emily Zabor defeated Natali Coronel and Grace Ysidora, 8-3. Alabama clinched doubles when Maya Jansen and Natalia Maynetto defeated Andjela Nemcevic and Julija Lukac, 8-6. In singles, the Tide clinched the win after winning the first three singles matches to finish. Antonia Foehse defeated Lukac, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 to get things started. `Bama wrapped up the win with victories at No. 1 and No. 3. Macfarlane defeated Ysidora, 6-4, 6-1, followed by Jansen beating Elianne Douglas-Miron, 6-4, 6-4. The Dawgs got on the board after that winning a pair of singles matches. Nemcevic earned a quality victory, beating No. 22 Alex Guarachi, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8. In addition, Coronel won at No. 5, beating Zabor, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8. The Dawgs will have to rebound quickly with a second match on the trip against a top SEC team. Washington will face No. 26 Ole Miss on Sunday at 9 a.m., PT.
