No. 44 Washington Earns Big Win Vs No. 40 Saint Mary's

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The Washington women completed a perfect weekend, defeating No. 40 Saint Mary's, 5-2. The Dawgs followed up last night's win over San Diego State with a quality win over a ranked opponent to move their record to 6-1. The Dawgs began by winning the doubles point to take the 1-0 lead. Elianne Douglas-Miron and Riko Shimizu combined on the first win, beating Danielle Flores and Jade Frampton, 8-1. That was followed by Andjela Nemcevic and Julija Lukac clinching the point by beating Jenny Jullien and Audrey Leitz, 8-1. In singles, Washington won four times, including two in straight sets and two needing a third set. Lukac and Natali Coronel got Washington to three points the quick victories. Lukac beat Frampton, 6-2, 6-1, while Coronel defeated Leitz, 6-4, 6-3. Needing one more point to clinch, the Huskies won a pair of matches late to go onto the 5-2 win. At No. 3 singles, Nemcevic defeated Catherine Isip, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, while Douglas-Miron defeated Flores, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. Washington will now have a weekend off, before heading back out on the road one more time. The Dawgs face a trip to the South to face Alabama and Ole Miss. The Dawgs will be in Tuscaloosa on February 15, at 1 p.m., followed by the trip to Oxford on February 17.
