No. 44 Washington Wins At San Diego State

SAN DIEGO -- The Huskies improved to 4-1, knocking off San Diego State, 5-2. The Dawgs won the doubles point and then four singles matches to beat the Aztecs on their home court. Washington swept doubles with Grace Ysidora and Natali Coronel starting things off with a 8-5 win at No. 2. Elianne Douglas-Miron and Riko Shimizu then clinched the point by winning at No. 1, 8-7 (6). For good measure Julija Lukac and Andjela Nemcevic finished off the doubles sweep, winning 8-6. In singles, Lukac made it 2-0, making quick work of Kristin Buth, 6-0, 6-1. After San Diego State made it 2-1, Coronel brought the momentum back to the Dawgs, beating Michaela Casanova, 6-1, 6-4. The clinching victory was Douglas-Miron who defeated Laura Antonana-Iriarte, 6-4, 6-3. Although Washington already had wrapped things up, Ysidora earned a fifth point for the Dawgs, winning at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 5-7, 6-4, in a tough three-set match over Julia Wais. The Dawgs will be right back out to the Aztec Tennis Center on Saturday when they face No. 40 Saint Mary's for a neutral site match.
