LIVE COVERAGE: SOFTBALL VS. NPF ALL-STARS
Oct. 14, 2012 SEATTLE -As a part of its Back to School Tour, the National Pro Fastpitch All-Star team will stop at Husky Softball Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. to take on the Washington Husky softball team. The 2012 Tour features all-stars from all four NPF teams competing in exhibition games against colleges across the U.S. The tour will make 22 stops in 40 days, and will compete against 23 different schools. Last year UW played against the All-Stars at Safeco Field, which included former All-American Huskies Danielle Lawrie, Ashley Charters and Jenn Salling. The Huskies fell 1-0 in a tight game. The tour will showcase former accomplished Pac-12 conference players from UCLA, California and Washington. Salling is in her second season with the USSSA Pride. The Port Coquitlam, B.C., native was a member of the 2009 National Championship team at Washington and a three-time All-American. Salling was a four-year member of the Canadian National team and the Canadian Olympic Team. Charters was also a member of the All-Star team last year and a recent Husky graduate. She was a three-time All-American as a Husky and a member of the 2009 championship team her senior year. She began her NPF career in 2011 with the USSA Pride. She was named to the USA National Team in 2008 and competed in the Canada Cup and the World Cup of Softball. Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif. /Washington) was drafted to the USSSA Pride in the NPF Senior Draft. The NPF rookie was a member of the 2009 National Championship team at Washington and was named to the WCWS All-Tournament team in the same year. Williams was a member of the 2010 U.S. Women's Futures National Team and an All-American outfielder/utility player at Washington. Kristina Thorson (Lake Forest Park, Wash./California) is in her fifth year with the NPF and a local player. She was named the 2007 NPF Rookie of the Year and a 2011 All-NPF Team selection. Thorson was named the 2006 Pac-10 pitcher of the year at California. This will be the last chance for fans to see the 2013 Husky Softball Team before the season begins in February. General Admission tickets are $10 and gates open at 11 a.m. Fans can watch Washington's batting practice at 11:15 a.m. and NPF's All-Stars at Noon. Both Washington and the NPF All-Stars will be signing autographs after the game outside the stadium by the batting cages. The Husky Authentic Store will be selling Washington gear at the game for fans of all ages. Parking will be free all day on Sunday and concessions will be available for purchase during the game. |
