SEATTLE - The Pan-American (Pan Am) Games take place every four years and are the second largest multi-sport event next to the Summer Olympics. In 2011, the 16th edition of the games will take in Guadalajara, Mexico starting on Oct. 14 and running through the end of the month.

The games will include competitions in 40 different sports including everything from badminton to bowling and water polo to weightlifting.

The Huskies have several current and former athletes participating in the games including Veronica Perez, who is competing for the Mexican soccer team, and Victoria Hayward and Jenn Salling who are competing for the Canadian softball team.

Throughout the games, soccer competitions will take place at the Omnilife Stadium, a 49,850 seat stadium, which is home to the Guadalajara professional football (soccer) team, Chivas. It will also be the host stadium for the FIFA Under-17 Football World Cup. The softball games will take place at the Pan-American Softball Stadium, which opened in May 2010 to host the Mexican National Olympic Games, and has a 792 seat capacity.

Soccer competitions will begin on Tuesday, October 18 with medal events taking place on Thursday and Friday, October 27-28. Softball competition gets underway on Monday, October 17 with medal events taking place on Sunday, October 23.
