WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - A total of eight Huskies, the most in school history, were named to one of three Academic All-Pac-12 Softball Teams this week by the Pac-12.

Taylor Smith led UW being selected on the first-team. Hooch Fagaly, Victoria Hayward and Bryana Walker made the second-team and Jenna Clifton, Kaitlin Inglesby, Nikia Williams and Shawna Wright all earned honorable mention, respectively. With these eight selections for UW in 2012, the Huskies have had 86 total All-Conference Academic honorees since 1993.

Smith, a senior from Olympia, Wash., is earning first-team honors for the second-straight season and earned honorable mention her sophomore year. She carries a 3.53 GPA in anthropology.

Three Huskies made the second-team, more than any other school. All three were sophomores on the 2012 team and earned their first Pac-12 Academic award. Fagaly (Chino, Calif.), a redshirt sophomore this season, boasts a 3.33 GPA in anthropology. Hayward (Mountain View, Calif.) has a 3.40 in pre-science and Walker (La Quinta, Calif.) has a 3.45 in her pre-major.

Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) and Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) were named to the first- team last year. This is the first academic honor for Clifton (Glendale, Ariz.) and Wright (Lancaster, Calif.).

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
