UW's Hauxhurst, Spediacci Sweep Pac-10 Honors
April 18, 2000 WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Senior Jennifer Spediacci and junior Kelly Hauxhurst and earned Pac-10 Pitcher and Player of the Week honors this week after their performances helped UW go 5-0 against No. 2 Arizona, No. 4 Arizona State and Portland State. Spediacci also was named the NFCA National Player of the Week. Hauxhurst, a left fielder, hit .538 (7-13), including going 3-for-3 on Sunday against No. 2 Arizona. Her seven hits included a double and a triple for a slugging percentage of .846, and she scored four runs and knocked in two more. Her on-base percentage was .538. Spediacci went 2-0 while maintaining a 0.00 ERA, with complete-game shutouts over No. 4 Arizona State and No. 2 Arizona. She struck out 23 in 14.0 innings and held opposing batters, including the nation's best hitting team in Arizona and the eighth-best in ASU, to a .176 average. Spediacci walked just two batters. She also hit a three-run homer against Arizona on Sunday, hitting .333 (2-6) for the week. It marks the third time this season the Huskies have swept the conference awards. The award was Hauxhurst's first and Spediacci's fourth for the season and ninth overall. It was Spediacci's first national award of her career. |
