Husky Softball Classic Begins Friday

SEATTLE - The annual Husky Softball Classic begins Friday and runs through Sunday with 13 games scheduled at Husky Softball Stadium. Along with the No. 19/16 Huskies, fans will get to see Seattle U, Bradley, New Mexico, Yale and Ohio in action. Washington begins the tournament at 7 p.m. against Ohio on Friday night. It will be the 2013 home opener for the Huskies who are 14-5 and riding a nine-game winning streak. Games begin on Friday at 10 a.m. as Bradley takes on New Mexico. Click the link on top of this page for the full schedule. Tickets can be purchase at the softball ticket office day or in advance at www.gohuskies.com. One ticket is good for the entire day. Seattle enters the weekend with an 8-9 record and having lost four-straight in Santa Barbara last week. Washington is 8-0 all-time against the Redhawks and won both meetings in this tournament, 8-0 and 4-0. Brittney Lott leads SU at the plate hitting .368. Eight players have at least 10 hits or more on the season. In the circle, Richelle Ashburn is 5-3 with a 2.87 ERA in 53.2 innings. The Ohio Bobcats are 11-3 on the season and 3-0 on the road. Lauren Gellerman leads the team with a .396 average, 19 hits, four doubles, two triples, five home runs and 23 RBI. The pitching has been spread out as Savannah Jo Dorsey is 5-1, Lauren McClary is 4-1 and Kaylin Clarke is 2-1. The UW and Ohio met once, on Feb. 12, 2010 with the UW picking up the 4-3 victory. Bradley and Washington will meet for the second time ever, and second time in two weeks in this tournament. The two met last week at Colorado State with the UW taking the contest 6-3. The Braves are 10-9 overall and batting a solid .316 as a team. Alyson Celemente and Bailiegh Basham are both hitting over .400. Washington leads the overall series with New Mexico 8-1, dropping the first game in 2011 and winning every game from 2008 on. These two teams last met in 2011 in New Mexico with the UW winning all three games, 7-4, 11-2 and 12-3. The Lobos are led by Mariah Rimmer who is hitting .359 and has 17 stolen bases. Chelsea Anaya is a close second with a .358 average and has a team-high 18 RBI. Three pitchers have pitched at least 30.0 innings and Lauren Soles has the best record at 5-3. Yale just began its season on Tuesday, dropping a doubleheader at Central Connecticut, 8-1 and 3-1. Chelsey Dunham and Rhydian Glass each pitched a game for Yale. Lauren Delgadillo had three hits in the games. Yale and Washington have never met in softball. Ohio and Bradley will play at Seattle U on Thursday night.
