SEATTLE - Riding a five-game winning streak, the No. 18/18 UW softball team heads to Fort Collins, Colo., for a weekend tournament hosted by Colorado State.

The tournament begins Friday with Nebraska-Omaha, Bradley, Brown and Colorado State playing, but the Huskies will play two games on Saturday and two on Sunday.

Washington has the early game on Saturday at 8 a.m. PT vs. Brown and will then play the last game of the day at 2:45 p.m. vs. Bradley.

On Sunday, the Huskies will play Nebraska-Omaha at 11:30 a.m. and then the host Rams at 2:45 p.m.

These will be the first-ever meetings between the UW and Brown, Bradley and Nebraska-Omaha.

Washington is 4-0 all-time against the Rams with all four games being played at neutral sites. The UW won the first meeting March 18, 1995, 8-4 and also won two meetings in 1996 and the last in 1998 in which CSU was ranked No. 8 in the country.

Brown has yet to play a game in 2013 and will start the season at this tournament against UNO and CSU before facing the Huskies. The Bears posted a 10-27 record in 2012. Stephanie Thompson returns for her senior year and was the Ivy League Co-Player of the Year last season. Thompson attended Chino Hills HS in Chino, Calif., along with current Husky Hooch Fagaly.

The Bradley Braves are 8-6 overall on the year. They have won five in a row going back to Feb. 17 vs. Hampton in Albuquerque, N.M. Last week they posted wins over IUPUI, Tennessee State, Morgan State and Butler at the Tiger Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. Alyson Clemente has started off well at the plate with a .524 average, 22 hits, six doubles and 16 RBI. In the circle, Madeline Lynch-Crumrine, out of Sedro-Woolley, Wash., is 5-3 in nine starts with a 2.95 ERA.

Nebraska-Omaha is an impressive 13-1 to start the year. Dana Elsasser is 8-1 in the circle with a 0.57 ERA. Amber Lutmer has a team-high seven home runs and 23 RBI. Their lone loss was a 2-1 decision to Iowa on Deb. 16. Last week they went 5-0 with wins over Detroit, Iona and UNCW.

The host Rams are 6-9 on the season and hosting their first home games of 2013. They had a rough schedule at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, dropping a close game to then-ranked No. 13/16 Georgia and also dropping contests vs. Oregon State, Utah, Virginia and Syracuse.

Kacie McCarthy has done a majority of their pitching and has a 4-4 record and 3.54 ERA in 53.1 innings. Ashlie Ortega boasts a team-high .365 average with three doubles, two triples, two home runs and 14 RBI.

Go Huskies!
