Husky Softball 16th In USA Today/NFCA Pre-Season Poll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The 2013 USA Today/NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) Top 25 Preseason Poll was released on Jan. 22 and the Washington Huskies came in at No. 16. The UW finished at 14 at the end of 2012 with a 39-19 record and an appearance in the NCAA Super Regionals.
Six other Pac-12 teams are ranked in the top 25 in Cal (3rd), Arizona State (4th), Oregon (5th), Arizona (13th), UCLA (19th) and Stanford (21st). Oregon State is also receiving votes.
Eight other Husky opponents in their non-conference schedule are in the poll with Oklahoma at No. 2, Texas and Georgia in the top 10, Michigan, Hawai'i and Florida State in the top 25 and Notre Dame and Kentucky receiving votes.
Washington's first ranked opponent will be on opening weekend at No. 23 Hawai'i as a part of the Paradise Softball Classic in Honolulu on Feb. 8.
Defending national champion Alabama is first in the poll with 25 out of the 31 first place votes.
