SEATTLE - The sixth-ranked Washington softball team got off to a good start at the NCAA Region 3 Tournament in Seattle on Thursday, run-ruling Colgate, 8-0, in six innings. It was UW's 11th run-rule game of the year. The Huskies will face Tennessee tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.

In other games at Husky Softball Stadium, fourth-seeded Cal State Fullerton run-ruled No. 3 seed Tennessee, 12-1, and fifth-seeded Texas A&M upset No. 2 seed, 4-3. Tomorrow's action begins with Hawai'i facing Colgate at 10 a.m. and ends with the Cal State Fullerton-Texas A&M matchup at 3 p.m.

After going three-up, three-down the first two innings, the Huskies got on track offensively in the third frame with four runs off four hits. Sophomore Christie Rosenblad and junior Jamie Graves both singled and junior Rosie Leutzinger was hit by a pitch to load the bases for sophomore Kelly Hauxhurst. The left fielder singled Rosenblad and Graves home, and then she and Leutzinger scored on a single by senior Becky Newbry.

After two more quiet innings, Washington belted five hits, including a double and a triple, to score four runs and end the game. Junior Jennifer Spediacci doubled and junior Melissa Downs singled before pinch hitter Shannon Walsh's single brought Spediacci home. Pinch runner Jessica Bork scored on a Rosenblad single, and pinch hitter Jenn Sumsky's triple ended the game by helping Helgeland and Rosenblad cross home plate.

Graves allowed just three hits in the complete-game win to up her record to 25-9 and lower her ERA to 0.82. She struck out five.
