Washington Post-Game Quotes
Head Coach Heather Tarr
"Overall, it was a well played game. Creighton was as tough as we thought they were. We played great defensively behind Danielle (Lawrie). She threw a great game. She only threw 112 pitches, which is a good outing for her. I know that she personally isn't satisfied though, knowing who she is and what she's about. Offensively, we were able to execute a plan. We got a couple hard hits early in the game, and it was nice to be able to score first."
On Washington's gameplan
"Every time we go into a game, offensively we have a plan, we have an idea of what we want to do, whether it's attacking a certain side of the zone, or sitting on a certain pitch, or whatever. Our main plan was to pass the bat and extend the inning."
On the familiarity of playing in Lincoln against Creighton
"Our players were able to trust the leadership of those that have been here before. I think anytime you go into a familiar situation, it allows you some sort of calming feelng. I know we were all nervous going into the game, because we were excited to play. But having been here before and understanding the tendencies of the opponent helps."
Sophomore first baseman Marnie Koziol
On her run scored in the first inning
"I had no idea that I'd be able to score. I trust her (coach Tarr), and I knew that she knew that I could score, so I just ran hard all the way. I was surprised she (Tara Oltman) dropped the ball."
Sophomore pitcher Danielle Lawrie
On her performance on the day
"All in all it was a great game. Give credit to Creighton, they put the ball into play, and our defense made great plays. The last inning was interesting for me, that's not normally how things work out. The catcher called a great game. Alicia (Matthews), she had great calls for me, and she helped me out big time. I can't help but thank the offense. Getting the lead early makes me pitch a little better. Thanks to them for scoring the runs."
On her "out" pitch
"It varies. It depends all on the hitter. You chart a hitter, and you look at what their strengths and weaknesses are, and you just kind of throw to that. Today, I threw the rise for a strikeout, I got some people on the screw, curve, change, everything. You've got to mix it up."
Creighton Post-Game Quotes
Head Coach Brent Vigness
On facing Danielle Lawrie
"We just faced a very good team and maybe one of the better pitchers not only in the collegiate ranks, but also in the world with her international experience. When you get down early against a great pitcher like that, I think it took the wind out of our sails a little bit."
On the game
"I really liked the way we competed though. I thought we made some pretty good adjustments as the game went on. It was nice to be able to see us score a run in that last inning and have an opportunity to score a couple more."
Pitcher Tara Oltman
On the way Washington scored runs
"It was very frustrating. If they're going to score runs I'd like them to at least hit it hard. But it happens and hopefully there will be a game when they're dropping in for us and not for the other team. Sometimes that's just how it goes."
Shortstop Bailey Dawson
On facing Danielle Lawrie
"Basically I went up with the approach that's she's just another pitcher and it's just another game. Yet she is very, very good. Like coach said, she plays internationally and she plays in the Pac 10. We knew coming in she was going to be a very good pitcher. I just tried to go up and approach it like it was another game. I didn't try to put all the hype into it."
On taking positives out of the game
"There's a lot of positives, but at the same time we're chomping at the bit. We really believe that we can beat any team here on any given day. The cards didn't fall in for us today but we're going to be chomping at the bit tomorrow. We're ready to go. We don't want to go home early."
