No. 3 Arizona Takes Two from Fifth-Ranked Washington

TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 3 Arizona Wildcats took two close games from the Washington Huskies in a Pac-10 doubleheader on Saturday evening, winning 2-1 and 3-0. UW falls to 43-16 on the season and 14-11 in conference play, with only a twinbill at UCLA remaining in the regular season.
Washington jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first outing, with leadoff Rosie Leutzinger scoring in the first frame on a single, a sacrifice by sophomore Kelly Hauxhurst, and a double by sophomore Kim DePaul. But Arizona answered with one run in the bottom of the first and second innings for the final count. UW managed just two more hits in the game.
Junior Jamie Graves (24-8) took the loss, allowing nine hits and one earned run while striking out three.
The Huskies collected five hits in the second game but could not score. Meanwhile, despite six strikeouts by junior Jennifer Spediacci, Arizona converted eight hits into three runs, one in the first frame and two more in the fifth.
