Souza Hits First Career Home Run

SEATTLE - Kimberlee Souza and Kaitlin Inglesby each had home runs for the Huskies in the third but a grand slam by Arizona State in the top of the seventh lifted the Sun Devils to a 6-3 victory in game two of the series Saturday afternoon.
Senior Nikia Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) led off the second with the first Husky hit of the game, a triple down the right field line.
Freshman Kimberlee Souza (Waialua, Hawai'i) hit her first career home run in the third giving UW a 1-0 lead. With two outs, sophomore Victoria Hayward (Mountain View, Calif.) hit a bloop single to right. After a long at bat sophomore Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) hit her 10th home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field.
Annie Lockwood walked and scored on an infield groundout by Amber Freeman in the fourth.
With one out in the fourth, freshman Kylee Lahners (Laguna Hills, Calif.) doubled off the center field wall. After sophomore Hooch Fagaly (Chino, Calif.) walked, ASU made a pitching change and pulled senior Hillary Bach. Bach was 19-0 entering the game and was in line for her first loss before the ASU comeback. Mackenzie Popescue entered and got the win,
Katelyn Boyd doubled with two outs in the fifth and scored on a triple by Amber Freeman to get within one. Freeman's hit went through the 5-6 gap and passed UW's left fielder all the way to the wall. She tried to make it an inside the park home run but was thrown out at the plate by senior Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.).
ASU got two on in the fifth with one out. Fagaly got the lead runner at third on a ground out to force the second out of the inning. Boyd hit an infield single to load the bases with two outs. Alex Johnson hit a grand slam to left center as ASU took a 6-3 lead.
Sunday is senior day at Husky Softball Stadium as UW will honor four very special student-athletes at the end of game three that begins at noon.
