BERKELEY, Calif. - The fifth-ranked Washington softball team split a doubleheader against the 12th-ranked Golden Bears of Cal on Sunday, bouncing back to win the second, 2-1, after dropping the first, 7-0. UW is now 36-13 overall and 9-8 in the Pac-10.

Junior Jamie Graves (20-7) allowed four runs off four hits in the loss. Freshman Bridget Wilcox relieved Graves in the middle of the fourth, and classmate Shannon Walsh pitched the sixth.

Junior Jennifer Spediacci went the distance in the second outing, striking out seven and allowing three hits in her sixth solo shutout.

The Huskies got on the scoreboard in the fifth when senior Becky Newbry singled, Spediacci sacrificed her to second, but an error on the play allowed Newbry to come home. UW struck again in the seventh inning. Sophomore Kelly Hauxhurst reached second on an error and then scored off Newbry's single to center field.
