Huskies Drop Series To Beavers

CORVALLIS, Ore. - It was another close game for the No. 9/11 UW softball team in Pac-12 play in a 3-2 Oregon State victory as the No. RV/24-ranked Beavers took game three and the series, 2-1, against Washington.
UW outhit OSU 7-4 in the game against the Beaver pitcher, Tina Andreana. She pitched the complete game allowing just one earned run. Sophomore Bryana Walker (La Quinta, Calif.) got the start for UW and allowed three runs on four hits in 2.0 innings. She is now 9-3 on the year. Freshman Kasey Stanchek (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) pitched four hitless innings of ball in relief.
Senior Nikia Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) led UW with two hits in the game and the lone Husky RBI.
Fellow senior Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.) scored the game's first run in the first inning. She singled and advanced to second on a Beaver error. Pohlman scored on a single by Williams.
All three of Oregon State's runs came in the second inning. The first two runs came on a homer by Ally Kutz. Hannah Bouska walked and scored the third run on a wild pitch.
The Huskies got within one with their second run in the fourth. Freshman Tara Bellusci (Anacortes, Wash.) pinch ran and scored on an error.
UW is 36-11 overall and 7-10 in Pac-12 play.
UW will host Arizona State in the final home series of 2012 Friday-Sunday. Friday night's 6 p.m. game will be on national television.
