SEATTLE--Fourth-ranked Washington racked up 12 hits in four innings of offense while their three pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter with seven strikeouts to help the Huskies pound Pacific Lutheran, 10-0, in five innings on Wednesday. UW improves to 31-7 for the year, while PLU is at 22-4.
After two quick outs to open the bottom of the first, freshman Kim DePaul singled to set up a 2 RBI homer by senior Eve Gaw, her third round-tripper of the season. UW picked up two more singles in the second by sophomore Jamie Graves and senior Leah Francis but could not get either home.
In the third, however, the Huskies added three more runs to their total. Sophomore Rosie Leutzinger and freshman Christie Rosenblad led off with singles. DePaul had a sacrifice fly to send Leutzinger home, and then sophomore Erin Helgelands fielders choice helped Rosenblad cross the plate. Helgeland then stole second and scored on sophomore Jennifer Spediaccis double.
Washington continued its scoring spree in the fourth inning. Ten batters collected five runs on five hits, three coming with two outs. Freshman Kelly Hauxhurst singled and Leutzinger doubled her home before PLU recorded the second out of the inning. Then DePaul was hit by her fourth pitch of the season and Gaw took her 15th walk of the year, both team-leading totals. Freshman pinch hitter Denia Pisia singled Leutzinger and DePaul home, and then Gaw crossed the plate off a Spediacci single. Francis hit Pisia home, and Leutzingers double sent Hauxhurst home from first after she singled, ending the scoring.
UWs pitching trio of Graves, Spediacci and Gaw held the Lute batters at bay, walked two and struck out seven. Spediacci collected the win, improving to 13-4 while collecting four Ks. Pacific Lutheran 000 000 0xx -- 0 0 0 Washington 203 5xx x -- 10 12 0
