Softball Ends Six-Game Road Trip with Win

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Washington softball team ended its six-game road trip with a 4-1 victory over Ohio State on Monday to improve to 22-5 on the season before Pacific-10 play begins at Husky Softball Stadium next weekend. UW got on the scoreboard in the second inning when senior Becky Newbry singled and was moved to third by junior Melissa Downs and freshman Shannon Walsh. She then crossed home plate on an error. The third inning saw the Huskies score another run. Junior Erin Helgeland walked and stole second, moved to third on an outfield fly by sophomore Kim DePaul, and scored on a double to the right center fence by Newbry. In the top of the seventh, junior Jeanine Giordano singled before junior Rosie Leutzinger knocked her first collegiate home run over the right field fence to put UW up 4-0.
