FULLERTON, Calif. - The No. 4/4 UW softball team improved to 20-0 on the year, its best start in school history with a 10-0 victory in six innings over Fresno State (14-6) in the first game of the Judi Garman Classic hosted by Cal State Fullerton on Thursday afternoon.
The Huskies are scheduled to play Texas tonight at 5:30 p.m., however due to tournament delays the game will more than likely start later. Stayed tuned to Twitter and www.gohuskies.com for updates.
Freshman Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) was outstanding in the circle and at the plate, pitching her second career complete game and shutout with seven strikeouts and allowing just three hits. At the plate, she had the first two hits of the game for UW, the first in the third and then a solo home run in the fifth to left field, her fourth of the year.
Fellow freshman Victoria Hayward (Mountain View, Calif.) scored the second run in the fifth after she reached base on a single and came across home on a single to left by junior Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.).
In the sixth inning, the Huskies sealed the game with eight more runs. Sophomore Shawna Wright (Lancaster, Calif.) drew a walk to lead off the inning. Inglesby hit an RBI single to left.
Hayward reached base on an error by the Bulldog shortstop Haley Gilleland as senior Morgan Stuart scored (Riverside, Calif.). Marki Creger-Zier (Steilacoom, Wash.) entered to pinch run and scored on a single by Taylor Smit (Olympia, Wash.)
A single to left by junior Niki Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) drove in two and a single by Stuart brought in the final two runs.
Michelle Moses got the loss for Fresno State in the circle, allowing two earned runs in 4.1 innings.
