Inglesby Throws Two-Hitter In 4-0 Victory
Feb. 9, 2012
TEMPE, Ariz. - Sophomore pitcher Kaitlin Inglesby hit a two-run home run to left-center that also drove in senior Kimi Pohlman in the first inning as No. 12 UW defeated No. 21 Nebraska in 2012 opener, 4-0 at the Tempe Sports Complex in Tempe, Ariz., Thursday afternoon.
"Overall it was a well played game," said head coach Heather Tarr. "Defensively we played as expected and offensively we had several opportunities to score runs against a very good pitcher in Haggeman."
The Portland, Ore., native, Inglesby, drove in a third RBI in the third as Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.) scored for the second time. The fourth and final UW run also came in the third as senior Taylor Smith (Olympia, Wash.) drove in fellow senior Nikia Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) with a single.
Inglesby helped herself at the plate, allowing just two hits and the first up the middle in the fifth inning by Madison Drake. She had five strikeouts and two walks in the complete game shutout.
Inglesby nearly hit a grand slam with the bases loaded late in the game but it was caught at the fence in left field.
Five players made their collegiate debuts in the game as freshmen Kimberlee Souza, Kylee Lahners and Courtney Gano all earned starts in the infield and made huge defensive plays throughout the game. Sophomore Kelli Suguro entered to pinch run for Wright to make her first appearance as a Husky as well.
The Huskies had five hits against Nebraska ace Ashley Hagemann.
UW takes on San Jose State at 1 p.m. PT at ASU's stadium Friday.
