LaFontaine-Kussmann Named Team MVP

SEATTLE - The women's soccer end of the year banquet was held at 50 North near the UW campus on Nov. 19. Friends, family and staff gathered with the team and coaches to say one final farewell to the seniors and hand out the annual team awards. After an introduction from head coach Lesle Gallimore and dinner, Gallimore thanked all the staff and gave her season review. The LIFE Awards were handed out next by Gallimore and all four went to seniors. Sarah Martinez earned the Loyalty Award, Alex Webber the Industry Award, Kate Deines the Faith Award and Jorde LaFontaine-Kussmann the Efficiency Award. Strength coach Rose Baker handed out her annual awards. The Iron Dawg went to Webber for the second-straight year, Raising the Bar went to Morgan Swanson and the Hard Hat went to freshman Megan Kufeld. The next set of team awards were voted on by the team. Freshman Christina Archer was tabbed Rookie of the Year. Annie Sittauer was named Most Improved. Hillary Zevenbergen got Goal of the Year. Stine Schoening was named the Unsung Hero. Deines earned the 101 Club Scholar-Athlete Award. Martinez was named Most Inspirational and Most Valuable Player on Offense, earning both for the second straight season. LaFontaine-Kussmann was the Defensive MVP and the teams Player of the Year, both for the second-straight year as well. Gallimore then spoke about Louise Albin, Morgan Swanson and Kellie Welch, not seniors, but players that will not be on the team next year due to injuries. Dufka gave a speech for the seniors and handed out gifts made by the entire team to all five of them. Each senior then had her turn to talk about her career as a Husky, give thanks and reflect on the good times. The staff made one final video for the seniors before the team handed out awards to the staff. Associate head coach Amy Griffin read one of her famous poems and assistant coach Jim Thomas gave a speech as well. |
