SEATTLE - Women's soccer senior forward Sarah Martinez has been named the Gohuskies.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 3-9. This is the first such honor on the season for Martinez and the third for the women's soccer team. Martinez (Des Moines, Wash.) helped the Huskies to their first Pac-12 wins of the season over conference newcomers Colorado and Utah. In the first game vs. Colorado, a 2-1 UW victory, Martinez had both goals in the second half. She scored just two minutes into the second half and then the game-winner with 14 minutes left in the game, both off of headers. Against Utah on Sunday in the 4-0 victory, Martinez had a goal and two assists. She assisted on the game-winning goal in the 23 minute and then earned an assist again in the 80th minute. In the 81st minute she scored her third goal of the weekend. Martinez leads the team with six goals and four assists. Other nominees include: Cory McElyea (men's golf), Michael Harris (men's soccer), Brandon McMorrow (men's tennis), Jennifer Yang (women's golf), Denise Dy (women's tennis) and Kylin Munoz (volleyball).
