SEATTLE - After concluding the pre-season with a 7-3-1 record, the Huskies return to Husky Soccer Stadium to open up Pac-10 play with the Arizona school's this weekend in two doubleheaders with the men's team. The Huskies face Arizona at 5 p.m. on Friday before taking on the Sun Devils at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. The UW men's team will play directly after the women both days.
Scouting Arizona
The Arizona Wildcats finished non-conference play with a 4-5-2 record. They picked up wins over Cal Poly and Tennessee early in the season and have won two-straight entering this weekend against Utah and San Francisco. They are 0-2 in road matches. Renae Cuellar leads the way with six goals and three assists. Ashley Jett has logged the most time in goal with 856 minutes. She has made 53 saves and allowed 16 goals with a record of 4-3-2. Lisa Oyen is the head coach in her seventh season, but her first as head coach, after being the interim last year. The Huskies lead the overall series 12-3-0 and have won the last four meetings dating back to 2005, including a 2-0 win last season in Tucson. Arizona's last win over UW was in Seattle on Oct. 14, 2005, a 1-0 victory when the Wildcats were No. 20 in the country.
Scouting Arizona State
ASU will face Washington State on Friday before heading to Seattle. They are 6-2-2 overall and 2-1-2 on the road. The Sun Devils went 0-1-1 last weekend, falling to Long Beach State and tying Pepperdine. They tied No. 19 South Carolina on Sept. 5. Karin Volpe leads the way with seven goals. Three different players have five assists each. Alyssa Gilmore has 880 minutes in goal, making 33 saves and allowing 11 goals. Kevin Boyd is the head coach in his fourth season. Last season, ASU and UW tied, 1-1, in Tempe. UW leads the overall series 7-4-3.

NCAA/Pac-10 Rankings
The individual and team Pac-10 and NCAA rankings are updated every week and several Dawgs are ranked amongst the best. In the conference rankings, Washington ranks in the top four in goals (22), points (62), goals per game (2.00), assists (18), shutouts (4), and corner kicks (58). The Huskies also lead the Pac-10 in attendance, averaging 1,104 fans in home contests. In the individual ranks, Kate Deines is fourth in game-winning goals (2), fifth in goals (6), seventh in goals per game (0.55) and eighth in points (12). Jorde LaFontaine-Kussmann is seventh in goals against average (0.97), saves (24), saves per game (3.00) and shutouts per game (0.25) and eighth in save percentage (.750). She is tied with Kari Davidson in sixth with two shutouts. In the NCAA rankings (last week), Washington is tied for 30th in won-lost-tied percentage (.750).

No. 4 Portland Edges Huskies in 2OT
It was the first overtime game of the season for UW and the Huskies went up early on No. 4 Portland at Merlo Field as Sarah Martinez scored in the sixth minute. Portland rallied to tie the game in the 83rd minute and then scored in the final minute of double overtime to take the match on a penalty kick.
Huskies Take Both In California
UW extended its winning streak to three games by defeating St. Mary's in Moraga, Calif., 3-1 and San Francisco on its home field, 2-0. Freshman Lindsay Elston scored her first and second career goals in those games and goalie Jorde LaFontaine-Kussmann picked up both wins. Alex Webber, McKenna Waitley and Kate Deines also scored over the weekend.
