Deines Named Student-Athlete Of The Week
Sept. 6, 2010
SEATTLE - Junior women's soccer captain Kate Deines was named the Gohuskies.com Student-Athlete of the Week for her performance last weekend in the Husky/Nike Invitational. The midfielder from Issaquah, Wash., was named the Offensive MVP for the tournament hosted at Husky Soccer Stadium, leading the Huskies to a 1-0-1 record and a second place finish. She had three goals in Friday's 4-0 victory over Syracuse, becoming just the 17th Husky in school history to score three or more goals in a single game and the first since Melissa Bennett scored three goals vs. USC on Nov. 10, 2002. Two of her goals were on penalty kicks in the 18th and 49th minutes and her third goal was off of a corner kick in the 19th minute. Her first goal of the game was her first of the season. Her three goals in the game equaled her goal total from the entire 2009 season. This is the first such honor for Deines and the second for women's soccer this season. Other nominees: Jake Locker (football), Spencer Richey (men's soccer), Becky Perry (volleyball), Kailey Campbell (women's cross country) and Cameron Quackenbush (men's cross country).
