SEATTLE - Junior midfielder Lindsay Elston answered a few questions for GoHuskies.com before the UW women's soccer team hits the road to Colgate and Syracuse this weekend.
GoHuskies.com: Being a junior on this year's team, what do you feel your role is as an upperclassman?
Lindsay Elston: As an upperclassman, it's my role to share the lessons I've learned during my time here with underclassmen and help them mature into college level soccer players.
GH: What are you most looking forward to this season?
LE: I can't wait for home games under the lights on Friday night!
GH: What did you learn most from playing with the Sounder's Women and Olympians this summer?
LE: I learned a lot about the level of commitment it takes to play high level soccer. The women I played with have so much more experience and understand what it takes to be at their best all the time.
GH: What is the biggest change in your game from last season?
LE: I'm working on getting more dangerous in front of the goal. I want to consistently be an impact player for our team.
GH: What are the team's goals for the year?
LE: We want to go all the way! Even though last year was a bit of an upset, there's nothing like being an underdog. Knowing how much time we've spent preparing, I can't wait to see what we accomplish this season.
GH: What are you individual goals for the year?
LE: I want to be effective and do whatever I can to help my team win.
GH: What is your pre-game superstition if you have any?
LE: I'm really superstitious about my pregame routine with music and how I put on all my gear.
GH: What is your favorite pre-game meal?
LE: I eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich before almost every game.
GH: Favorite pre-game music?
LE: Anything that gets me up and dancing!
GH: What is your guilty pleasure TV show?
LE: Sometimes I feel like I'm part of the Kardashian family I watch it so much.
GH: If the team named you (ex: class clown, prom queen, nerdy, etc.) what would your title be?
LE: I asked a few of the girls what I would be and they told me normal jock, whatever that means!
GH: If you weren't playing soccer you would....
LE: Definitely be doing another sport and skiing in the winter. But I think I picked the best sport!
GH: What is your favorite quote or saying from one of the UW coaches?
LE: Get gritty with it.
GH: Who has the best hidden talent on the team and what is it?
LE: Jaclyn is strangely amazing at impersonating people.
GH: Who is the best ball juggler on the team?
LE: Most people on the team are really good jugglers, but Allie (Beahan) is the person that comes to mind. We've played together since we were eight and I remember she was the first person to be able to do the "Juggle Across America" competition.
GH: If you could trade places with one person on the team for a day who would it be and why?
LE: I would trade places with Kari (Davidson). It's unbelievable what she's accomplishing right now outside of soccer with her business. I'm really proud of her and hope to help others like she is doing one day.
