Huskies Picked Fifth By Coaches

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - For the second-straight year the Pac-12 women's soccer coaches have picked the Huskies to finish fifth in conference play in 2012 with a total of 75 points.

The UW was picked fifth in 2011 and ended up seventh at the end of the season with a 7-8-5 overall record and a 3-5-3 conference mark.

Stanford, the 2011 National Champion, is the favorite again with 10 first-place votes and 120 total. UCLA came in second with two first-place votes. Cal and Oregon State were selected third and fourth, just ahead of Washington, rounding out the top five. Arizona State was sixth, followed by USC, Utah, Washington State, Oregon, Colorado and Arizona.

Washington head coach Lesle Gallimore enters her 19th season leading the Huskies and has 189 wins, including two trips to the NCAA Elite 8.

The 2012 season begins for the Huskies on Aug. 17 at 4 p.m. at Seattle U.

Coaches were not allowed to vote for their teams, so there were a total of 11 possible first-place votes for each team.
