No. 1 Stanford Edges Huskies In OT
Oct. 2, 2011
SEATTLE - It was just the second time this season that No. 1 and undefeated Stanford had been taking to overtime but the Cardinal snuck past UW in the 94th minute for a 1-0 victory on Sunday afternoon at Husky Soccer Field.
UW falls to 4-4-3 on the year and 0-2-1 in conference play while Stanford improves to 11-0-1 and 3-0-0.
The Huskies held their own against a top-ranked team for the second-straight game after taking No. 21 Cal to overtime on Friday and ending in a draw.
Stanford took 23 shots in the game, 10 on goal while Husky keeper Jorde LaFontaine-Kussmann (Lakewood, Wash.) made nine saves.
The lone goal came from All-American Teresa Noyola, her sixth of the year, in the 94th minute on an assist by Mariah Nogueria. It was a cross from the left side of the field and Noyola headed it into the right corner.
UW continues conference play next week, hosting Colorado and Utah for the first-time ever as conference opponents in the Pac-12.
