2nd-Ranked Santa Clara Tops UW Women
September 11, 1998 SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Washington women's soccer team, behind the five saves of sophomore goalkeeper Leslie Weeks, gamely battled the second-ranked team in the nation before falling 1-0 to Santa Clara on Friday at Buck Shaw Stadium. The Broncos tallied the game's lone goal at 36:40 of the first half. Reserve midfielder Megan Horvath ran on to a pass from Ruby Vigil and booted it into the net from 10 yards out. Santa Clara, which qualified for the NCAA Final Four each of the last two seasons, improved to 4-0. The Broncos outscored their first three opponents 15-2, including a 9-2 rout of Washington State. The Huskies, who were outshot 17-4, dropped to 1-2. Goalkeeper Crystal Gordon was credited with the shutout for Santa Clara, but did not record a save.
