Huskies Drop Women's Soccer Season Opener
September 5, 1998 SEATTLE - September 5, 1998 UNC Greensboro scored goals on its first two shots in the opening seven minutes Saturday to defeat Washington 2-1 in the Huskies women's soccer season opener at Husky Soccer Field. Liza Rojas-Alford fielded a corner kick from Keri Currutt and booted it into the goal at 2:11 to opening the scoring. Ali Lord then looped a 25-yard shot from the right wing over the head of Washington goalkeeper Leslie Weeks at 6:59. Washington drew within one goal at 66:56 on a 20-yard shot by sophomore Tami Bennett that deflected into the goal off a Spartan defender. UNCG (1-1), an NCAA Tournament competitor each of the last two seasons, avenged a 5-0 loss last year against Washington in Greensboro. Weeks registered four saves for Washington. Starting Spartan goalkeeper Paula Domitrovits posted two first-half saves and did not allow a goal. Reserve keeper Kathryn Clewley entered at halftime and had three saves. Washington returns to action on Tuesday, playing at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo.
