2008 (Freshman)
Played in 12 games, earning the starting nod on two occasions... Made her collegiate debut in the season-opening 3-0 win at Montana, one of five rookies to do so... Also appeared in the Gonzaga game before getting her first start in the third game of the season - and the home opener - against Colgate... Took three shots against the Red Raiders... Also started the next game against Kennesaw State before suffering a leg injury... Did not play again until playing in three consecutive games against No. 3 Portland, No. 2 UCLA and No. 5 Stanford... Played in six of nine Pac-10 games.
Mount Rainier High School
Four-year letterwinner served two years as team captain... Played both midfielder and goalkeeper, earning first-team all-league at both positions... Named team's MVP her junior and senior seasons... Compiled 15 goals and 14 assists during her senior season, leading Mt. Rainier to the state Class AAA playoffs... Voted Co-MVP of the Seamount League... Earned first-team all-state honors along with being named to the Seattle Times and Seattle Post-Intelligencer all-area teams... Completed her career with 52 goals and 45 assists... Also lettered in softball and basketball... First team all-Seamount League three times in softball and second team all-league pick in basketball.
Personal
Parents are Sue and Mike Martinez... Has an older brother, Doug (20), and an older sister, Tonya (19)... Her grandfather, Doug McClymont, attended UW... Father, Mike, played college baseball from 1979-81... Won first place in the Thanksgiving Surf Cup in 2004 and ODP Inter-Regionals in 2005 with club team HPFC... High school teammates with current Husky teammate Nikki Murray.

Sarah Martinez In Her Own Words
I grew up in Des Moines, Washington my whole life and I can see myself there forever. I am the type of person who loves to spend as much time with my family as possible, because they can never be replaced. I grew up playing a lot of sports but have always known soccer was the one I couldn't see my life without. I ALWAYS wear a certain black tank top under my uniform, which I get made fun of for. It's okay though :) I am not sure what I want to be when I grow up but I want to work around kids somehow. My favorite time of the year is our season. Night games are my favorite. |
