Gymnastics Locker Room New & Improved
Dec. 12, 2011
SEATTLE - On a college campus there is always ongoing construction. Over the summer and fall, one of the projects in Alaska Airlines Arena was to complete re-gut and re-design the women's gymnastics locker room. "Our gymnasts work very hard and to get a new locker room was rewarding," said head coach Joanne Bowers. "I would like to thank our administration for approving the project and especially thank Darla Van Winkle for seeing it through to completion. The new space is something we can be proud of showing off." The area for the team remained the same but was opened up by knocking down the divider in the middle of the room. One of the biggest changes was the addition of brand new lockers. 17 dark wood-branded lockers with each of the gymnasts' names on them include a mirror and a lockable storage area. New carpet was added and purple stools for the entire team. All of the paint is brand new, purple, white and gold with team sayings on the wall, included quotes from the team and a big "W." A new IPod portable sound system was installed. All of the furniture is brand new which include a sectional couch with pillows, Husky folding chairs, a computer desk and a coffee table. The computer station includes two new laptops. A 42" flat screen TV was added and has the ability to connect to the computer to watch film. A message board that is controlled from the coaches offices and projects onto the smaller TV monitor was also installed. In the bathroom, they added more power outlets, new mirrors, new storage area, new lighting, new ceiling tiles, new shampoo/soap holders in the showers and new garbage cans. The Wall of Fame borders the top of the room and includes pictures of conference and regional champions and national qualifiers. |
