UW Selected To Host 2014 Gymnastics Regionals
Nov. 1, 2012
SEATTLE - The NCAA Division I Championships Cabinet has selected the University of Washington as one of the six hosts for the 2014 Regional Championships. This is the fifth time Washington has been selected to host the west regional, after being chosen in 2003, 2005, 2009 and 2012. "I'm so excited I can't stand it," said head coach Joanne Bowers after finding out on Wednesday that Washington had been selected. "I really am so impressed with our athletic departments desire to help us move forward on the national stage. It is so much work to host an event of this magnitude. When we hosted regionals last year every team that was here went on-and-on about how it was first class and we did it the right away. It's a great experience for the student-athletes involved." The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors with a non-qualifying team from each regional will advance to the National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships. The event will be held on April 5, 2014 at Alaska Airlines Arena. The teams that will participate and the event time will be determined closer to the event. Other sites for the 2014 regionals were also announced and will be hosted by Arkansas, Georgia, LSU, Minnesota and Penn State. The 2014 National Championships will be held at the BJCC Arena in Birmingham, Ala. |
