Linton Excited For First Nationals Experience
April 20, 2010
UW junior Kristen Linton qualified for the NCAA national meet by tying for first on floor at the NCAA Regionals two weekends ago. She headed to Gainesville, Fla., Tuesday morning with teammate Samantha Walior but before she did, she caught up with the Everett Herald's Scott Johnson to talk about the experience.

The two-minute drill
SJ: Certainly, as a young gymnast, you dreamed of Olympic gold. But where does qualifying for the NCAA championships rank among your career achievements?
KL: It's probably at the top. I don't think I've ever been at a bigger meet than this one, so it's really exciting. It's one of my biggest goals I've ever had in my gymnastics career.
SJ: Even though you won the event in Salt Lake City on Saturday, you still had to wait until Monday to find out whether you would advance to this weekend's NCAA championships. So what was Sunday like, and then what was Monday like for you?
KL: I didn't really want to get my hopes up because I didn't want to be disappointed. I was really excited that me, and one of my teammates, at least won it. So that was really exciting. Even if we didn't go, I would still be pumped about that. I was just really excited and nervous about what they were going to say.
