April 10, 2007

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Six Washington gymnasts have earned honorable mention to the 2007 Academic All-Pac-10 team, commissioner Tom Hansen announced last week. The Huskies' total of six honorees is tied for the fourth-most among conference schools, and is one more than the team's total number of academic honorees last season.

Seniors Tori Quandt (3.33 grade-point average, business administration) and Darcee Schiller (3.10 GPA, economics) each were honored for the second time in their UW careers, while juniors Nikki Waiss (3.37 GPA, environmental health) and Natalie Gillan (3.27 GPA, business administration), and sophomores Kelly Gilbert (3.04 GPA, arts & sciences) and Kristen Omori (3.63 GPA, aquatic & fisheries sciences) all received their first Academic All-Pac-10 awards.

To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic year at their current school, must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and be a key contributor to their team's lineup.

The Huskies will hope to match their academic success in the gym this weekend at the NCAA West Regional Championships in Berkeley, where the top-two teams will earn qualifying spots at the NCAA Gymnastics Championships.
