Houghting, who hails from Welland, Ont., scored high marks all night to lead her team to its highest total score of the season, 195.175, against No. 5 Louisiana State University. A vault specialist, Houghting scored a commanding 9.925 on the apparatus to take second place on the event. The score was also her third-consecutive week with a 9.9 or better on the event. In addition, Houghting's 9.775 on beam was a major factor in the Huskies' 48.750-48.400 team event win over LSU. One of three Huskies to hit an explosive 9.875 on floor, Houghting finished first in the all-around with a season-high mark of 39.225.
Waiss, from Mill Creek, Wash., scored a team-high and season-best 9.875 on bars last Friday night against the Tigers. The score tops Waiss's previous high mark of the 2008 campaign by almost a tenth of a point. Waiss took second place in the event, her highest-placed finish of the season.
Houghting and Waiss are the first Husky gymnasts to receive Pac-10 weekly honors since 2004. Houghting is Washington's fourth Gymnast of the Week and Waiss is the university's first Event Specialist of the Week.
