Feb. 25, 2001 Seattle - The Washington women's gymnastics team used a record-setting performance to topple 19th-ranked Oregon State and improve its record to 9-5 this season. Washington posted a school-record score of 196.875 to defeat the Beavers, who scored 196.325. Washington had 16 career-high performances, topped by junior Stacy Wong, who won the all-around with a school record score of 39.700. Wong's score allowed her to win the all-around competition for the first time in her career. She helped the Huskies to sweep first place in every event, and the top three spots in the all-around. Wong won the vault with a score of 9.950, finished first on bars with a 9.950 and tied teammate Lanna Apisukh for top honors on beam with a 9.900. Both her vault and beam scores were career highs. She tied her career high on floor with a 9.900, finishing third in that event. "I just wanted to have a meet where I hit every routine," Wong said. "I had no idea I was going to post a score that high. It was great to do it and help the team to set the school record today." Washington's overall score was not its only team record. The Huskies bars score of 49.500 also set a new standard. Washington's previous school overall scoring record was 196.775, set in a victory against Oregon State in 1997. "The gymnasts did a great job today," said Husky head coach Bob Levesque. "We got off to a great start, scoring 49.275 (season high) on the vault and we just kept it going. We could have done even better. We had to count a fall on the beam and Lanna Apisukh, one of our best gymnasts on floor exercise, stepped out of bounds during her routine." Washington senior Mandi Klug won the floor exercise by tying her career high on floor exercise with a 9.950. Oregon State's Annie Campbell also tied Apisukh and Wong for top honors on balance beam to lead the Beavers. Campbell finished fourth in the all-around with a season-high score of 39.300. The meet marked the first time this season Oregon State did not have to count a fall during competition. The Beavers' overall score was their second best of the year. The Beavers are now 2-7 on the season.
