Husky Gymnasts Finish Second at California
Feb. 9, 2001 Berkeley, CA - The Washington women's gymnastics team placed second in a three-way meet at California with a score of 192.175. The Golden Bears, ranked 24th in the nation, won the meet with a score of 194.000, overcoming the Huskies in the final rotation. UC Davis was third with a score of 188.525. Washington senior Mandi Klug tied California's Carrie Kreifels for first place on beam with a score of 9.750. The Golden Bears won all three other events outright and took the top three spots in the all-around. In addition ton Wong, the Huskies other top finishers were second-place showing by Stacy Wong on bars (9.825) and Lanna Apisukh on floor exercise (9.900). California's victory ended an 11-meet win streak the Huskies had over the Bears. Washington had outscored California in a multi-team event at Denver to start the 2001 season. The Huskies won't take much time off before competing again. Washington travels to top-ranked UCLA on Sunday for a 2 p.m. meet.
