Three days before the Washington women's gymnastics team opens the 2008 season against 15th-ranked Denver, the Huskies received their first score of the season when the fall grades were reported. The GymDawgs notched the highest team GPA at UW for the quarter with a 3.44. The mark is also the highest on record for Washington gymnastics.

"The whole team did such a great job in the fall quarter," noted head coach Joanne Bowers. "We keep repeating our mantra of `together we can' - and this is a great team effort in the classroom. For us to be good and successful, everyone needs to do everything they can do. And they did really well this fall, I'm so proud of them."

In addition to the outstanding efforts of the whole team, the five freshmen averaged a 3.69 grade-point average, an impressive feat for the newcomers who had to adjust to college life while balancing academics and athletics.

"We knew they were good students," added Bowers, "but to be able to get acclimated to college life while they made changes in the gym and still be able this well in school is just fantastic!"
