Dec. 5, 2010
SEATTLE - Fans got to see the 2011 gymnastics team at the annual Intrasquad meet at Hec Edmundson Pavilion on Saturday night. The Huskies split into two teams to compete on all four events with the Purple team defeating the Gold team. "We do the Intrasquad to practice and let everyone get the nerves out," said head coach Joanne Bowers. "A lot of people did new skills today and that was exciting for us. We are looking at this as an opportunity on how to get better. If the attitude is great and we are moving forward as a program then that's where I'm happy. We accomplished what we needed to accomplish tonight." The Purple team consisted of: Haley Bogart, Hatsune Akaogi, Lauren Rogers, Kylie Sharp, Paige Bixler, Phoebe Tham and Amanda Cline. The Gold team was: Sam Walior, Kristen Linton, Aliza Vaccher, Ruby Engreitz, Meg Whitney, Anna Epps and Lara Albright. Vaccher, a freshman from Eugene, Ore., showed the Husky fans what she was all about in her first meet as a Husky by winning the All-Around title with an overall score of 38.875. Vaccher also won the balance beam with a 9.850. Linton, a senior from Edmonds, Wash., won two individual events, taking the bars with a 9.750 and the floor with a 9.825. Fellow senior Bogart (Woodside, Calif.) won the vault with a 9.775. Please note that scores in the Intrasquad meet are not official because it was not an official meet. The Huskies open up the regular season at the Pac-10 Preview on Jan. 9 in Los Angeles. |
