UW Gymnasts Win at Arizona
Feb. 6, 1998 Tucson, WA -- The 19th-ranked Washington women's gymnastics team posted its highest score of the season to win a four-way meet with Arizona, California and Illinois-Chicago. The Huskies' 193.975 just edged the homestanding Wildcats' score of 193.775. Cal was third at 190.125 while the Flames placed fourth at 187.725. The victory raises the Huskies' record to 7-1 this season. Washington had three event winners in Klara Kudilkova, who posted a 9.900 on vault and a 9.850 on bars and Tiffany Simpson, who turned in a 9.850 on beam. Simpson also won the all-around with a score of 39.375. It marks the third time in four meets this season that Simpson has won the all-around competition. Both of Kudilkova and Simpson's winning scores were season bests. Simpson's all-around score was also the tops by a Husky this season. Simpson managed a second-place finish on vault with a 9.850 and tied for third on floor exercise with a 9.850 that was equaled by UW freshman Lanna Apisukh. It was Apisukh's top floor score of the season. The Huskies' team score on beam of 48.200 and 48.775 on vault were high marks for the season. Next Friday Washington returns home to host the first of three straight meets at Hec Edmundson Pavilion when the Huskies entertain Arizona State at 7 p.m.
