Jan. 23, 1998 SEATTLE- The 13th-ranked Washington women's gymnastics team used strong all-around performances by junior Tiffany Simpson and senior Klara Kudilkova to win their first home meet of the season. The Huskies recorded the top two scores in all four events to total 191.250 points. Utah State, ranked 17th, was second with 187.125 points. California was third at 186.650 followed by Sacramento State at 178.825. The victory raises Washington's record to 4-0 this season. Simpson, a three-time All-American at last year's NCAA Championships, won the all-around competition with a score of 38.525. She placed in a tie for first in vault (9.700), parallel bars (9.825) and floor exercise (9.850). Kudilkova tied Simpson in the vault and floor exercise competition. Husky senior Jamie Stauffer equaled Simpson in the bars while Lauren Riesenman (9.750) and Lanna Apisukh (9.600) swept the top two places on beam. Utah State's Amber Jamison placed second in the all-around competition with a score of 38.175 while California's Leila Khoury was third at 38.050. Kudilkova was fourth in all-around with a score of 38.000. Washington will travel to 19th-ranked Oregon State next Friday.
