Aug. 11, 2005 Pinehurst, NC - Washington senior golfer Paige Mackenzie won twice Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the 103rd North and South Amateur Championship being held at Pinehurst No. 2. In the morning session, Mackenzie defeated Paige Haverly of Greenville, N.C. 4 and 2 and then downed Lisa Tyler of Lighthouse Point, Fla. 3 and 1 in the afternoon. Mackenzie will square off with Molly Birmingham of Cornelius, N.C. Friday at 8:20 a.m. EDT. The winner will advance to Saturday's semifinals. The championship final is slated for Sunday. Mackenzie entered match play as the No. 23 seed while Birmingham was seeded 31st after stroke play. Last week Mackenzie was eliminated during the second round of match play at the U.S. Women's Amateur. |
