Yang Qualifies For Match Play At U.S. Amateur

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Washington's Jennifer Yang shot 3-over 75 in Tuesday's second round of stroke play at the 112th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship and finished tied for 51st to advance on to match play action. Yang ended up 5-over 149 overall at The Country Club in Cleveland, Ohio and will face Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand, the world's No. 2 ranked women amateur player, in Wednesday's round of 64. Yang converted a birdie on the par-4 17th hole to get a stroke back and just make the match play cut. Jutanugarn finished stroke play at 5-under and tied for third. Hyo-Joo Kim shot a pair of 68's to end up a 8-under and win stroke play medalist honors. Recent UW grad Sadena Parks shot even par 72 in Tuesday's second round, but could not overcome her first round 79. She ended up tied for 77th at +7 overall. Yang and Jutanugarn will tee off at 1:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday. |
