July 6, 2012
KOHLER, Wis. - For the third time in her career former Husky women's golf All-American Paige Mackenzie has made the cut at the U.S. Open. The 2006 UW grad finished right on the cut line at Blackwolf Run in Kohler, Wis. after ending up +5 (75-74-149) through 36 holes. Mackenzie teed off from the 10th hole and needed a late rally on her second nine to make it safely into the weekend. A birdie on No. 5 put her at +6 for the tournament, but a bogey on No. 6 left Mackenzie at +7. The Yakima native bore down from there and birdied No.'s 7 and 8 to get to +5. Overall, Mackenzie shot 2-over 74 on Friday. She had an impressive five birdies during the round, but also had to mark a 7 on the par 4 14th hole. She also had four other bogeys. Anya Alvarez, a 2011 Husky graduate and recent competitor on Big Break Atlantis, missed the cut. She shot 82-82 to end up 20-over. Mackenzie will tee off at 7:50 a.m. ET on Saturday. |
