Kelli Kamimura is two shots behind the leaders after the first round of the PING/ASU Invitational

The Washington women's golf team is in 12th-place at the PING-Arizona State Invitational after shooting 311 on the first day of play. The Huskies are led by junior Kelli Kamimura, who shot 1-over par 73. Kamimura is just two strokes behind co-leaders Lorena Ochoa of Arizona and Molly Cooper of Arizona State. Texas Christian shot 299 to take a two-stroke lead over California at the tournament being playing at the par-72, 6,101-yard Karsten Golf Course.
Kamimura, the MasterCard Collegiate Golfer of the Month for March, shot 37 on the front nine and 36 on the back side of Arizona State's home course. She is tied with five other players for fifth place.
Husky freshman Lindsay Morgan was the only other UW golfer to break 80. Morgan posted back-to-back 38s to complete play with a 76. That ties her for 23rd place in the tournament. Louise Friberg and Michelle Grafos are tied for 63rd with 81 and Elisha Au shot 83 after carding a 45 on the back nine. Bianca Clark, competing as an individual and not counting toward the UW team score, shot 78 to tie for 42nd
The second round of play will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday. The final 18 holes of play at the tournament will be contested on Sunday.
