Season Preview

STANFORD, Calif. - The UW women's golf team kick starts the 2012 spring season tomorrow in the 17th Peg Barnard Invitational at Stanford Golf Course.

Washington is among 12 teams competing for the team title at the 36-hole tournament that runs through Sunday at the par-71, 6,100-yard course. Joining the Huskies, who are ranked 35th by Golfstat.com, are No. 12 California, Fresno State, Furman, Hawaii, Oregon State, Portland State, San Francisco, Santa Clara, San Jose State, No. 26 Stanford and Rollins.

Coach Mary Lou Mulflur's lineup will feature three freshmen, a sophomore and a junior. SooBin Kim enters the fray as the Huskies No. 1 golfer and is currently ranked 28th by Golfstat.com. Fellow freshman Jennifer Yang will be the No. 2 golfers and is ranked 99th by Golfstat.com.

Freshman Cyd Okino will start at No. 3, followed by junior Brittany Tallman and sophomore Kelli Bowers.

California is the defending team champion. The Huskies won the event three times previously, last claiming the team title in 2005. Karinn Dickinson is the only Husky medalist, taking the individual title in 2008.

The tournament is scheduled to begin at 9:00 on Saturday with a shotgun start, while Sunday's final round is at 8:30 a.m.
