Dickinson, Huskies Second After First Round In Vegas
Oct. 25, 2010
LAS VEGAS -- The Husky women's golf team is second out of 17 teams after shooting a combined 6-over 294 in Monday's first round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at Boulder Creek Golf Club. Arkansas holds a 17 stroke lead over Washington after an 11-under 277. Leading the Dawgs was Karinn Dickinson, who carded a 4-under 68. The Mulkiteo, Wash. native is tied for second with Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro. Both golfers trail Arkansas' Emily Tulbert by five strokes. She shot a bogey-free 9-under 63. Dickinson's round got off to a great start with four birdies through the first seven holes. She had just one hiccup with a bogey on No. 17, but evened it out with a final birdie on No. 5. "Karinn played really well, but obviously Arkansas played extremely well today," said coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "We had a couple places where we just let some shots get away and made some big numbers. That was the difference from being 6-over versus 5-under. Overall, we're pleased." The next highest Husky on the leaderboard heading into Tuesday's second round is senior Anya Alvarez. She shot a 1-over 73 and is tied for 14th with nine other golfers. Sadena Parks shot a 4-over 76 and is tied for 44th, while freshmen Kelli Bowers (77) and A Ram Choi (79) are tied for 56th and 73rd respectively. Darcie Richmond is competing as an individual for the Huskies and shot a 79. The 96 competitors return to the 6,329-yard course tomorrow with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. PT.
