SAMMAMISH - After one day of play, the Husky women remained right in the thick of the hunt for the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational title, finishing tied for fourth place with a combined score of 310.

Oregon heads the 13-team tournament at Sahalee Country Club at the end of Monday with a squad score of 299 (11-over par), while the individual leader is Brigham Young's Natalia Jimenez with an even-par 72.

"I think everybody was a little disappointed with the way we finished," said Washington coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "We dug ourselves in a hole, but it is manageable."

Leading the Huskies through a first round that saw rainy conditions for most of the day was sophomore Karinn Dickinson, who shot a 2-over-par 74, tying her for fifth place after day one.

"I'm real proud of Karinn," Mulflur said of the sophomore from Mukilteo's Kamiak High School. "She played very solid - she only made a few bogeys and that was what we have been talking about all week. At this course, if you make a mistake, you get yourself out first. She did a real good job of damage control."

Surrounding leader Oregon and fourth-place Washington are Stanford (303), Oregon State (306) and California, which is tied with the Dawgs.

Between Jimenez and Dickinson on the leaderboard are Rebecca Durham from Stanford and Monika Graf and Kendra Little from Oregon are tied for second at 1-over par. Dickenson is tied with four other players for fifth. Combined with wet conditions, tough hole locations resulted in high scores for the West Coast field, but Mulflur didn't think the level of play was thrown off much by the elements.

"Going into this, I thought that a 1-over would be a good score," she said. "There are a number of girls that put up great numbers. The course is long anyway, and when it's wet, it definitely is."

Mulflur was impressed by freshman Sadena Parks, who shot a 6-over, 78, in just her first collegiate tournament.

"With the pressure and the nerves that come with playing this course and against this tough field of great golfers, her score was a very positive thing to see," Mulflur said.

The Dawgs tee off from the first hole on Tuesday at 10:10 a.m., starting with Nicole Ferrero, Christina Yoon (10:20), Anya Alverez (10:30), Parks (10:40) and Dickinson (10:50).
