Au Leads UW Golfers to 10th Place Finish

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Washington freshman Elisha Au carded a tournament-best score of 69 in the final round of the Ping/ASU Invitational to finish in a tie for eighth place. Au, who carded a pair of 76s during the first two rounds, finished with a 54-hole total of 221, tying with former national champion Marisa Baena of Arizona. Au's tournament score was the best 54-hole total posted by a Husky this season. The Huskies finished 10th in the 16-team tournament with a team score of 923 on the par 72 Karsten Golf Course. Washington's 302 on the final day of play marks its best 18-hole score of the season. UW sophomore Andrea Cordova, playing as an individual, posted three scores in the 70s to finish tied for 33rd with 229. Jennifer Stapleton recovered from an 80 in round to with a 76 on Sunday to finish tied for 49th. Paola Bellotti and Julia Smith each registered 237 while Mendy Cooper finished at 238. Arizona State senior Kellee Booth took the individual title with a 215 for the tournament and Stanford took home the team title, bettering San Jose State by six strokes with a 54-hole team-score of 872. The Huskies will play in the California Collegiate next week before competing the Pac-10 Championships on April 20-22.
