Husky Women's Golf Third After 36 Holes In San Jose

SAN JOSE, Calif. - SooBin Kim is +1 after two rounds of play and is tied for fifth to lead Washington in the first day of action at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invite.
The 13th-ranked Huskies entered the tournament as the highest-rated team by Golfstat.com. They are third out of 12 teams with 18 holes remaining.
Defending tournament champion California shot 583 (+7) during Monday's first 36 holes and holds a five shot lead over second-place UC Davis. Washington is third, 13 shots off the lead, after shooting 596 (+20).
Kim played with the most consistency during the day for the Huskies. She fired a 73 in the morning and 72 in the afternoon at the par-72, 6,169-yard Almaden Golf and Country Club.
Kelli Bowers turned in the best round of the day by a Husky with a 1-under 71 in the morning and followed it up with a 76 in the afternoon. She is eighth overall at +3 (147).
"It was a tough day today. It was kind of the same thing as last week where we just couldn't get clicking on all cylinders. There still seems to be some struggling with the putting, but we feel like we are headed in the right direction."
Besides Kim and Bowers, the Huskies have two other golfers in the top-25. Jennifer Yang is tied for 16th at +6 overall and junior Brittany Tallman is tied for 25th at +10. Yang shot a pair of 75's, while Tallman shot 77 twice.
Freshman Cyd Okino is tied for 53rd at +18 after shooting 83 and 79.
Only three golfers out of 66 competitors entered the clubhouse under par. California's Daniela Holmqvist shot 71 and 69 and leads at -4. Cal's Joanne Lee is -3, while UC Davis' Demi Runas is -1. UC Irvine's Lalita Patipaksiri is fourth at even-par 144.
